Below you find version 2.0 of our 2010 Fantasy Basketball Expert Mock Draft. This mock draft includes expert commentary and was created by Fantasy Basketball Xtreme writers Smitty, KingLouieLouie76, Ballgame and Zach. This mock draft is based on a league that requires a starting line-up of: 2Gs, 2Fs, 1C and 1Flex. This mock draft is based on a redraft league and a scoring format of: Reb=1pt, Asst=1pt, Scoring Point=1pt, Steal=1pt, Blk=1pt (field goal %=n/a)
Sort By: 1.0 | 2.0
Updated Last: 10/7/2010
1.01 – Kevin Durant (SF, OKC) – With LeBron James sharing the ball with two elite studs in Miami this season, Kevin Durant is the only player to draft with the 1.01 pick (in any format). Durant is only going to get better, which is almost scary (or at least scary for those who don't/won't own him in 2010). Expect Durant to throw down 30 points and 8-10 rebounds per game this upcoming fantasy season.
1.02 – LeBron James (SF, MIA) – Despite playing with both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, LeBron James deserves top three overall respect. While it's tough to imagine LeBron playing at the same fantasy level in Miami as he did in Cleveland, we envision Wade and Bosh suffering (fantasy wise) more so than LeBron. He may score less, but it's entirely possible his rebound and assist numbers go up enough to keep LeBron looking like LeBron.
1.03 – Chris Paul (PG, NO) – Chris Paul needs to stay healthy to earn this rank, but I believe that he will. When he plays, Paul is easily a top three, if not top two, overall fantasy player. With stud-in-the-making Darren Collison now in Indiana, that "What about Collison?" worry is no longer lingering around New Orleans. We LOVE Collison this year (read below), but he wasn't going to steal Paul's job away… he is so talented, though, he could have taken away opportunities, that's for sure. Well, now Collison is gone and the Hornets need Paul more than ever! Last year, Paul averaged 18.7 points and 10.7 assists per game. While those are already insane stats, I expect a healthy Paul to crank out 22-23 points and 10-11 assists per game in 2010.
1.04 – Kobe Bryant (SG, LAL) – If this were a dynasty mock, Kobe Bryant would drop a few spots, but you can't go wrong with Bryant anywhere inside the top 2-5. With LeBron and company in Miami, you can bet Kobe is motivated to get L.A. off to a hot start in 2010.
1.05 – Dwight Howard (C, ORL) – Dwight Howard, like Kevin Durant, will only get better over the coming years. He is only 24 years old. Howard worked with Olajuwon earlier this summer and he reportedly learned a lot from the former star. This kind of effort by Howard excites us, because if Superman can take his offensive game to the next level, he could be a top two overall fantasy basketball player. Will that season be this season? Tough to say, but you won't see Hoard slip past us at No. 5 in any upcoming expert drafts.
1.06 – Carmelo Anthony (SF, DEN) – Carmelo Anthony could end up in Chicago, or elsewhere, entering 2010. His landing spot could affect his value for the good or the bad. His situation in Denver is solid, so staying put could be a good thing for Melo owners in 2010. If he heads to Chicago, his numbers could take a slight hit. Whether in Denver, or Chicago, it's hard to see any situation where we rank Melo outside our top 7 overall heading into 2010. Melo can lead the NBA in scoring during any given season.
1.07 – Deron Williams (PG, UTA) – Injuries are always a concern with Deron Williams. Injuries are really the only reason this guy isn't inside our top 5-6. When on the court he produces point guard numbers second to only Chris Paul… how many games will he miss in 2010, though?
1.08 – Derrick Rose (PG, CHI) – Derrick Rose is our surprise breakout player heading into 2010. A lot of people like Rose this upcoming season, but this ranking is how much we like him heading into 2010. Rose is the next Chris Paul and is worthy of a top 8-12 overall pick in any league/format this season. He will be without Carlos Boozer until roughly early December, but Rose will be elite no matter what's going on with Boozer. When Boozer is on the court, Rose will score less, but his assists will increase. With Boozer out, Rose will be asked to score more. Get ready for a HUGE 2010-2011 season out of Rose! Read more on Rose here.
1.09 – Amar'e Stoudemire (PF, NY) – That Knicks offense could turn Amar'e Stoudemire into a double double machine in 2010. His eye injury is always a concern, as that issue feels like it could reemerge at any moment, but you can't pass up Stoud's New York upside in the 1.08-1.11 range in 2010.
1.10 – Dwyane Wade (SG, MIA) – Dwyane Wade is a tough player to rank this year.. will LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade all still manage to crank out first-round fantasy numbers in 2010? It's tough to say. Even with the risk and all the unknowns, it's tough to let Wade fall past the 10 spot.
1.11 – Danny Granger (SF, IND) – This is where it dicey. Danny Granger deserves consideration at this spot, but a few other names could arguably go ahead of him. One wouldn't be crazy to draft Dirk Nowitzki here, or even a Stephen Curry or a Chris Bosh.
1.12 – Dirk Nowitzki (PF, DAL) – At some point Dirk is going to slow down, but this is a redraft mock and Nowitzki has at least 1-2 years left as a first-round like talent. Draft Dirk with confidence anywhere near the bookend 12/13 picks.
2.01 – Stephen Curry (PG, GS) – Huge upside. In a year from now, Curry could be a top 5 overall pick in all leagues and formats.
2.02 – Tyreke Evans (SG, SAC) – Tyreke Evans could be a first-round pick in all leagues and formats by this time next year.
2.03 – Chris Bosh (PF, MIA) – As stated above, it's tough to predict which, if any, of LeBron, Bosh and Wade will suffer fantasy-wise in 2010. Even with the risk, this is about as far as we can slot Bosh in any format.
2.04 – Al Jefferson (C, UTA) – Jefferson is a good fit in Utah and should have no problem racking up double doubles on a regular basis. Paul Millsap could cut into some of Al Jefferson's 2010 potential, but we shall see. For now, Big Al remains one of fantasy basketball's top ranked centers across all leagues and formats.
2.05 – Monta Ellis (SG, GS) – Injuries are the only concern here.
2.06 – Rajon Rondo (PG, BOS) – Plain solid. He could get better over the course of the season as some of those Boston players slow down.
2.07 – Russell Westbrook (PG, OKC) – Russell Westbrook could have such a big 2010, he might be a top 12-14 overall ranked player come this time next year.
2.08 – Brandon Roy (SG, POR) – Solid, but tough to count on any higher than this.
2.09 – Kevin Love (PF, MIN) – Huge upside. Huge. He could still be a year away from being extremely consistent, but we like his chances of getting to that elite level as early as mid-season.
2.10 – Zach Randolph (PF, MEM) – Good value at this point, but let him fall to the bottom of the second-round in your upcoming drafts.
2.11 – Darren Collison (PG, IND) – I venture to say most will call this a big-time reach, but enjoy the show in 2010! Come season's end, this won't look so ridiculously high.
2.12 – Josh Smith (PF, ATL) – Overvalued in a lot of leagues if you ask us, but this seems about right… he should be ranked a lot higher than this in category leagues — Know that.
3.01 – Steve Nash (PG, PHO) – Getting older. Does he still have an elite season left? Will the departure of Stoud hurt or help Nash in 2010?
3.02 – David Lee (C, GS) – Too low? Well, New York makes players look better than they are. We like Lee, he is getting overvalued outside of New York.
3.03 – Brook Lopez (C, NJ) – Good value here. No great value, but good value.
3.04 – Pau Gasol (PF, LAL) – Gasol is overlooked and he shouldn't be. He could be a steal in 2010 if the undervaluing continues in early drafts.
3.05 – Joe Johnson (SG, ATL) – Will he earn all that money? Joe is always solid, but he is far from a No. 1 on anyone's team. If you want consistent, he is your guy.
3.06 – Paul Millsap (PF, UTA) – This could be a bit high, as Millsap has to share the ball with Al Jefferson in that Utah starting line-up. Boozer will get his, but will Millsap? Getting Al Jefferson was a fantastic basketball move by the Jazz, but it crushed Millsap believers.
3.07 – David West (PF, NO) – Good value around this range.
3.08 – Andray Blatche (PF, WAS) – Monster upside, but he comes with a grip of risk. The risk is worth it around this range, but don't reach. You won't have to.
3.09 – Carlos Boozer (PF, CHI) – Boozer is in an ideal situation over in Chicago, but his broken hand will have him out until December. Once he returns he will be a stud and play like a borderline first-round pick. Tough to take him much higher than this in a redraft, though.
3.10 – Rudy Gay (SF, MEM) – Not amazing, but decent value here.
3.11 – Gerald Wallace (SF, CHA) – Loads of talent with loads of injury risk.
3.12 – John Wall (PG, WAS) – This relatively high for a rookie, but Wall is the real deal. If this were a dynasty mock, Wall would be a lot higher. That's how much we like him.
4.01 – J.J. Hickson (PF, CLE) – Huge, huge upside. Sleeper alert!
4.02 – Andre Iguodala (SF, PHI) – Inconsistent as they come, but loads of talent still.
4.03 – Stephen Jackson (SG, CHA) – Good value as a fourth or fifth player taken on draft
day (in 12-team leagues).
4.04 – Aaron Brooks (G, HOU) – He could take his game to the next level in 2010-2011.
4.05 – LaMarcus Aldridge (PF, POR) – Good value here.
4.06 – Brandon Jennings (PG, MIL) – We could be a year early, but Jennings is going to be elite. Great value in redraft leagues this year.
4.07 – Joakim Noah (C, CHI) – He signed a $60 million dollar deal with Chicago and isn't going anywhere now. With Carlos Boozer out until at least December with a broken hand, Noah could start off the 2010-2011 season with a bang.
4.08 – Luis Scola (PF, HOU) – Solid.
4.09 – Antawn Jamison (PF, CLE) – With LeBron James in Miami, Jamison could have a monster 2010. He is getting up there in age, so that's what's keeping him slotted so low, though. Good upside but risk is attached.
4.10 – Jrue Holiday (PG, PHI) – Rising star? We think so.
4.11 – Chris Kaman (C, LAC) – Injury concerns limit his value. This could be a good thing if he falls into the fifth- and sixth rounds.
4.12 – Al Horford (C, ATL) – Could improve a lot this season. A lot.
Gilbert Arenas, Blake Griffin, Hedo Turkoglu, Paul Pierce, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Ramon Sessions, Andre Miller, Andrew Bogut, Emeka Okafor, Jason Thompson, Jeff Green, Anthony Morrow, Danilo Gallinari, DeJuan Blair, John Salmons, Hakim Warrick, Marcus Camby, Elton Brand, Al Thornton, Vince Carter, Jason Kidd, Baron Davis, Manu Ginobili, Ty Lawson, Marcus Thornton, Kevin Martin, Terrence Williams, Jason Richardson, O.J. Mayo, George Hill, Rodney Stuckey, Devin Harris, Jamal Crawford, Raymond Felton, Johnny Flynn
OfflineI really like the placement of Curry and Evans. Bold, but more appropriate than most mocks (who have Curry as high as #5 over-all). I also think you are spot on with Collison…I'm really hoping to steal him right under unsuspecting drafters noses in upcoming drafts.
If it were me, I'd rank Brandon Roy a little higher, but the point is true about dependability. But when he is on the court and running the show for the Blazers, the stats fly. I also would bump up Iguodala. On average he has very nice stats. Similiar to your Josh Smith comment, if it were a "cat" league, I'd bump him way up.
Glad to see no sign of Johnny Flynn this time around too. That had to be a typo in Mock Draft #1, lol.
Overall looks real good.
